Lush trees seem to evoke one another across our inner -- and sometimes desolate -- landscapes.
As I read Some trees by John Ashbery for ModPo this week, my heart drifted towards this song.
When artists dwell on their craft, using language to talk about language, and making us think about thoughts or sing about songs, they usually end up presenting these activities as metaphors for living. I wish my English speaking colleagues could gain access to Caetano's lyrics as much as I wish my instruction-manual-writing colleagues could gain access to New York School poets and poems. So I wrote an English version for A outra banda da Terra and posted it here.
There's also a grapevine we need to make room for here. It's been twining its vines around me for quite some time already. Take a look at it here.
